The Puzzler – Week 14

Congrats to the winners on our contest!

Welcome to The Puzzler. Every week, there are 2 new puzzles related to my passion: math, logic, and thinking. The first puzzle will be The Puzzler Quik, meant for those who crave something fun-sized. The second puzzle will be The Puzzler Think, meant for those who love to ponder. The answers will be posted in next week’s column. Don’t forget to submit your answer for a potential shout-out in the next edition of the Puzzler.

Don’t  forget to check out our new Youtube channel. It features videos about topics that boggle us all!

All the outer numbers are correlated with the inner numbers in some way.

Come on, try your best!

Puzzler Think

Puzzled?

Limit yourself to numbers with digits that can be flipped and still result a valid number

The number is less than 100!

Last Week's Puzzler Quik

Chirag from Kansas was the winner of this shout-out.

Here is his slightly edited explanation:

(Total # of Participants) – (# of Participants who forgot the about the contest + # of Participants who had on-the-spot errors and thus could not take the test) +30 = Total # of Contest-Takers. There were 350 total participants, 15% times 350 = 52.5 participants who forgot the about the contest, 5% times 350 = 17.5 participants who had on-the-spot errors and thus could not take the test. Using substitution: 350 – (52.5 + 17.5) + 30= Total # of Contest-Takers = 350 – 70 = Total # of Contest-Takers => 280 +30= Total # of Contest-Takers. Therefore, there were a total of 310 contest-takers.

Last Week's Puzzler Think

This week’s shout out goes to Richa from New Providence, New Jersey! Kudos to her!

From the first statement, we conclude that when Lisa was 6 years old, at the same time Lucy would be 3 years old. Therefore, after the 34 years it took Lisa to age to 40 years old of age, Lucy would be 3 + 34 = 37 years old.
